Meet for the first time

What is the most exciting thing you have done ont he first day of class?

Peter,
I use a number of different ice breakers that get students up and out of their seats and talking with each other. My ice breakers are competitive as I break the students up into groups and have them do certain activities that have tactile and humor integrated in them. The results are engaged and focused students that are ready for the coming class sessions.

What about your exciting first class activities? What do you use as class starters?

I greet the students at the door with a smile and a Good Morning!

Rose,
A smile is a wonderful way to establish a positive environment for that class session. Keep up the good work of making students feel welcome.

First impression is very important because if you go to your first class meeting late, not prepared, or not dress appropriately, your students will rememberm this for a very long time. I like the idea that you can never be over prepared for a first class meeting. The more prepared you are the more positive points you will gain with your students.
