Meeting those students for the first time
My first time having a group of students I tend to fell just as uneasy as them. Upon entering the class I remind myself what my objective is. I want the students to have a synopsis of the course. Then I begin with notes and explain my notes focusing on key words that they would need to know for their quiz the next day>
the first day of class for me I generally feel nervous as well, but rather than succombing to my feelings/possible insecurities, I try to use whateer anxiety I do feel to energize, motivate and help me connect with those in my class that are likely feeling the same way.
The first day is nerve-racking for students and instructors alike. I think it is a humbling experience though. It gives us the instructors yet another chance to see the classroom (experiences and all)from their side.
