I have found that as the lecture goes on if I have pass arounds for the students to actually be able to look at as I do the lecture this really helps them to understand what I am lecturing about.Also throughout the lecture there may be times that I will also do a demo on how to do something such as bench bleeding a master cylinder and I have found that not only does this change the pace but it also makes it easier for the student to stay focused on what is being lectured about and not be so boring so the student fights to stay awake.

I agree fully with this comment. Somtimes you can not even keep there attention. So that is when you need to do a change of state.
