model or motivator

How would you know if you are a good motivator or model?

Craig,
If you model the highest standards of your field. As for being a good motivator I would use student feedback as an indicator that you are reaching and engaging your students. Also, the retention of students in your class is another way you can measure whether you are earning their respect and developing rapport with them.

If you set the example for your profession the students watch and want to be as sucessful as you.
Motivation is important to assess the conviction and willingness to learn. If questions are asked then you can be the person to engage with there feedback and modify teaching to enhance their learning and willingness to learn.

Scott,
You are the learning leader and model for your profession so you set the standard as well as show your students how they should develop themselves as representatives of the field. This is a most important part of the total education process.
