I believe it is important to recognize that every student learns differently, and students with learning disabilities may need additional support or different teaching strategies to be successful. In my welding classroom, I try to use a combination of hands-on demonstrations, visual instruction, videos, and written directions to reach different learning styles. Breaking assignments into smaller steps, providing extra time when needed, and checking for understanding can make a big difference. My goal is to create an environment where every student feels supported and has the opportunity to learn new skills and be successful.

As instructors, we should be able to recognize when a person has a learning challenge and assist with the best measures possible using various teaching strategies to enable or assist the student in the learning arena.

A person that has been able to learn a second language has learned to open their minds more, and actually may have developed a better way for them to learn more diverse subjects. We should encourage them more, and perhaps we will find ourselves learning from them as well.

We need to keep our eyes, and our minds open to the differences in our students related to their cultures, race, and upbringings. We need to be able to adapt the content to being understood by all, in order to help each and every student to succeed in their education pathway. We need to be supportive and encouraging for them to feel confident and gain the willingness to continue towards their goals.

I learned that instructors should familiarize themselves with the culture of their students. That sometimes how they were raised will affect what is acceptable or not. For instance eye contact could be a sign of disrespect in some cultures. Also that title IV can be filed from a person that it did not happen to.

It is important to understand that an ELL student will need more time while taking a test in order to process the information. Assessments should also be not just high stakes test but a compilation of journal reflections, observations etc.

I really enjoyed watching the video where a teacher explains how she helps her ELL students. I like that she met with them one on one for a few minutes and asked them what can she do to improve her teaching.

I learned that the length of time to be very proficient in English is around 6 to 10 years and that I need to provide guidance and allow chances for them to fail as trial and error is the best way to learn.

I learned that it may take several years for an ESL student to master the English language.

Instructional strategies for students with learning disabilities include any accommodation or modification intended to give the students a chance to be successful in their learning.
