Electronic Agreements

Our school is moving over to electronic enrollment agreements. Does anyone have any feedback on these? Do they speed things up, are the to esoteric and time consuming, things like that.

Board approval and accreditation

Noting that accreditation is an optional process for schools, what implications might it have for students and graduates if a school chooses not to pursue accreditation? I am under the impression that prospective students are being told to look carefully at the accreditation of an institution. I've also heard personal accounts that seem to indicate a lack of accreditation prevented them from finding gainful employment/moving forward. Any thoughts?

Student services

As part of my own experience as a student, I found my spirits bolstered by the presence of a very strong student services departments. A question for more seasoned agents: Outside of the realm of different activities (like holiday sales and student appreciation) is there any one example of how student services has affected your students?

Application Fee/Student fee Question

Perhaps, I may have misunderstood, but, there is a nominal state fee associated with each student, correct? If that is so, is it included in the separate application fee that an institution mandates? Does this perhaps depend on the institution's discretion?

Paperwork

With regard to organization, what has been the most efficient way to keep a applicant/potential student's paperwork in check? I have noted that some keep organization via folders and such, but, all the same suggestions?

Rule 3332-1-17.2 - Question

With regard to the following: "(5) Refrain from attempting to influence a student to withdraw from a school that the student is presently attending. and (6)Refrain from encouraging a prospective student to change plans after signing an enrollment application and paying the registration free to another school." So long as the agents aren't actively seeking and initiating contact with prospective students that fall under that criteria, one wouldn't be in violation of the ethical code of conduct? Additionally, with regard to the practice of following up with potential students, after initial contact has passed... would that fall under violation if they have since enrolled elsewhere?

Accreditation Tips?

Can someone give me a tip on handling prospective students questions about accreditation and how it only pertains to certain programs?

Advertising Question

Can someone give me an example of what kind of advertising is not permitted by the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges?

Qualifications for acceptance

What instances have occurred that a school would accept a person who did not meet normal basic qualifications for acceptance if any? Also Does this come up often and any advice on it?

Rule 3332 1-17.1 Question!!

In this rule it states that an agent cannot work for both the school and an outside non-school employment agency. Can someone please elaborate a little more about that?

Know your student

Not every potential student is the right person for the program they are seeking. I feel such as Nursing the person has to be going into the field for the right reasons. As admissions representatives we change lives and hopefully for the better in the end.

Changed Schools

I have been in the education field for over 10 years with 3 different schools. All have about the same processes for enrolling students with just minor differences. Years ago some practices that were condoned have caused needed changes to occur and I welcome them openly. I am impressed with the professionalism practiced at Hondros College and feel part of a total team dedicated to the success of our students

Student Loans

Why is it that so many prospective students take issue to student loans? Also, what are some good ways to overcome those objections during the Admissions process?

Binders

How many times does your schools admissions deptartment check to see reps have their binders up to date?

Transfer credit

Always best to let the student call the school and find out.

Paperwork

It's so important that the student reads every detail.

Transfer of Credits

One thing that I initially found odd in this position at this institution was the rules about transferring credits. Though I thought it would be detrimental to the recruitment and admissions process to be so stingent in the transferability process, I now understand why it is important. I believe that it shows that this institution, as a career college, really values the courses it offers, the instructors, and the overall learning process. Knowing that from start to finish the academic future of the student is compiled in the best format, for their best success, really means a lot for the credit of the school.
