Methods of instuction

We are a on hands institute, and go from reading ladder diagrams ,too drawing, then wiring boards. What would the individual segments be labeled as?

Attitude

Attitude every day plays a roll in yourself, it has to start with the front of the room. This is very important for setting the tone of the day and needs to be lived daily,( per moment ). Attitude is the axis, longitudinal support on which our, stem and root, center. Posture of our minds is seen not heard. How to we build the right attitude?

as a new instructor one thing I need to learn, suggestions plz

I,ll take any suggestions from people with more experience

First Day of Class

On the first day of class, I like to introduce myself and go over the objectives. I think it is important to make sure the students understand and know what to expect for that class. I think it helps when they find out their instructor also went to college, had kids at home, and also worked out of the home. I also explain to them that I like to have the class specifically structured to help them in their field. Joan Buesing

Activities with out Relevance

I teach a Humanities class with an emphasis on Literature. Many students seldom read and do not enjoy reading activities and find the assignments hold no relevance to their career goals.

Power Point

Almost all of our courses have a premade power point presentations to go along with the lectures. We are able to modify the slides if we feel it is necessary. How much information should be on one slide in the form of text, and should all slides have a picture or graphic? Thanks for your help!

New Teacher, Old Class

I am starting to teach a class that has been together for over a year. They all know each other already. I intoduced myself on the first day, and then asked them if they had any questions about me. They did, and we spoke to long about me and my life. Was it a mistake to ask them if they had any questions about me? Should I just have introduced myself, and moved on?

Tangents

I'm lucky because my students are very interested in most of the material that we cover in our courses. However, sometimes we have to limit the level of detail that we can go into on certain topics. At times, we go off on tangents and class ends before I can finish everything in my lesson plan for the day. How can I curtail these sidetracks without hurting their enthusiasm? All the info that we discuss I would like them to know, but there's too much to talk about, and not enough time in the day! Thanks, Jeremy

Cardiovascular Sonography

Hello, I hope everyone is enjoying these courses. I'm very pleased with the information I have received from this course.

Questions

After taking this course, I realize now that I use A LOT of "Closed" questions. I need to learn to incorporate more "Open" questions in my lectures. Is it a bad idea to write them down and ask them that way?

Responding to Wrong Answers - Mathematics

As a mathematics instructor, I use questioning often, as a means of assessing student understanding (and my teaching). However, usually their responses are right on point or not. I can struggle with students who are way off track with their responses. I will praise and encourage their attempt, but I can sense a bit of disappointment on their face when I "gently" redirect/rephrase the question. Are there any other math instructors in this class who face a similar challenge?

helping students with dyslexia

Discussing how I can be of assistance is very important; also what has helped the student in the past.

learning groups

The forming of groups is a very good way of getting to know my students.

ELL

The introduction of new vocabulary to students , and making sure that the words are understood is very important in my classroom.

106- discovering my own style

I would like to keep a notebook to see what I am attempting in my classroom in order to improve my delivery style.

Types of questioning

There are 3 different types of questioning techniques. They are: Closed, open, and procedural. The closed question draws from your personal memory, open questions require more than simple recall, and procedural questions ask you to follow a certain set of steps. Open questions should be the crust of your questioning, engaging the student and forcing them to participate in the lecture.

Vusual test

I think for art students, test that includes multiple -choices with visual images is more effective.

Student assesment

This model was great help to how to biuld thoughtful and wellwrtten test.

Creating question regarding the new subject

After I took this course, I am getting better to get more questions and answers from my class. I create some questions and post them before lecture. After lecture, I ask class if there is any qyestion and I noticed that my preposted questions gave ideas and encouragement to students to think of their questions regarding the subject.

Student who has both writing and visual learning style

Always provide students who learn best through reaading and looking at pictures, with power point slides with good size of reading matreials.
