soft skills

time and time and again, I have had students with atitudes, not wanting to be there, feeling entitled to be mad at the world, and not wanting to take resposibility.  By practicing my soft skills,  they start to modify their behavior and treat people appropriately, and even look forward to being in my class.  Then, teaching hard skills becomes a breeze.

I too have had very difficult students.  By use of my soft skills and being a model to them, I have gained respect and a great classroom experience.

We recently changed our courses to focus on soft skills to deal with the types of student attitudes you have encountered. I agree that once students have grasped the need for these skills, teaching the hard skills becomes much easier.
