Skills Training

In institutions of higher education, student retention is enhanced when the faculty is familiar with the concept of students as customers, implements effective communication techniques, and sets guidelines for advising and mentoring students.  Instructors need to focus on the learning needs of the students and realize that academic and non-academic factors influence the success of each student.  The plan is to teach basic nursing skills using multiple methods of instruction.  The students will have a written step-by-step guide for each skill, a video to watch that demonstrates the skill, and then a hands-on method in which the students perform the skill in the lab setting using a manikin and a video recording is made and critiqued to determine areas for improvement.  The multi-method of instruction will ensure that student preferences for learning are addressed.
