Of course student retention is very important and as an instructor , because we have so much contact with the students we have a lot of influence in affecting how well they do and if they will stay on course. There are many things we can do to help the students to iron out problems they may be experiencing. Firstly we have to connect with the students and help them feel comfortable with us so that they want to come to class but also that they feel they can talk to us about any issues they may have. We need to be supportive, understanding, consistant, and always be professional .polite and enforce the school rules.

I have been teaching for over 3 years now and although I had many years experience in my field I have learnt a great deal about working with many types of personalities and helping them acheive success. This is not an easy process and requires dedication, support and patience but is very rewarding when you see some students who originally were not on track or were going to drop out , suceed and graduate, and more importantly come and thank me for helping them through the tough times, this is the best reward of the job.
