Being a Leader

Early in my Administrative career, I truely thought (assumed) to be an effective leader, a person had to create a vision, share the vision clerarly, implement the vision and assess the vision until the goal(s) have been met. After completing this course, it appears that, in some cases, someone else in the organization, with the appropriate management skills, can/should be appointed to be the point person to plan, implement and monitor day to day activities until achieved goals have been met. The leader should then be in touch with what is happening within the group and provide the necessary tools and guidance to the group… >>>

Recruiting and Developing Talent a Top Concern of CEOs

The 15th annual PricewaterhouseCoopers' annual Global CEO survey revealed that 50% of CEOs indicated recruiting and retaining high potential middle managers" was their chief "talent" challenge.  Considering the drastic economic, technological, and cultural disruption evolving before our eyes, having the talent to adapt and lead organizations into the future is a critical component to any organization who wants to thrive where other institutions struggle.

CEOs were very specific when indicating their talent constraint issues.  Some of the highlights from page 20 of the hyperlinked report are as follows:

Optimal Management Through Goal-Setting

In education, the product can be considered the information and/or the student.  In order for a student to develop as well as meet educational goals, goal-setting is very important.  I assist students in setting short-term goals, with the obvious long-term goals of graduating and then obtaining a position.  Along the way, students learn their weaknesses in learning and professionalism, and then begin to create more short-term goals that assist in obtaining their long-term goals.  This course has taught me to categorize as well as organize goals.  SMART shows us how we can truly make goals attainable if we apply all… >>>

ML115 Project Management...

Wow! what a class. Many of us have played the role of project manager at least once in their careers, often without the proper training or insight. Unfortunately lack of training in project management skills often results in excessive stress for the entire team, scope creep and a project that may never be completed within the specified time and budget frame.

ML115 has provided the essential road map to follow when assuming the role as project manager. The support forms are especially valuable for documenting various aspects of the project. i hope that others who have taken this class or those considerintg… >>>

stress management - into practice

I have to say that 136 was enlightening. It was a very detailed approach in terms of manageing stress. I must add that the examples were simple and unfortunately, too simple since the complexities of stressors on an already heavily worked environment are multifaceted. That being said, it helps with bringing a systematic approach to organizing and listing things that bother you so they can be tackled one at a time.

Retention and what it takes

This course reiterated what I have been saying for years.  Customer service is everyones responsibility.  Students will blossom when they have a support system that is there to help, inspire, direct and pat them on the back when they do well.  But at the same time they thrive when they are challenged and held accountable for there actions or lack there of.

Finance Essentials

I am taking the Finance Essentials course.  It's been quite a while since I've taken any course at all and I can say that the experience is overwhelming.  Nonetheless, I have sharpen up my knowledge with this course.  It's very challenging though, because I have not had the opportunity to go so in-depth in the Finance field.  What I have learned is more information that I will use in the position I'm in, which is working in Finance in a small private nursing institution, but it definetely will help me achieve my goals more effectively.

Goals Setting

One never ceased to learn, although I'm a goal setter by nature I have failed to implement some very important steps hence failure to accomplish certain goals. Career Management

I think one should prepare themselves for a second career because ofttentimes professionals tend to burnout of perfoming the same job for many years.  Instead of never being able to obtain job advancement in the job one may original began however; it does mean one perhaps retire in any entry level position.  In addition, following company policy and procedures as well as surrounding yourself around people whom have the ability to create change in your work environment. Waiting to say the right thing...or nothing at all

Waiting to make a decision or even saying something you may regret is an acquired skill I have been working on.  It is good to have this idea posted here to get some additional ways to wait, be patient until there has been time to see the situation from a few different points.  When you wait and take the emotion or energy of the moment out of your perspective, you may find that you do not even need to comment on what seemed so urgent when the heat of the moment was present.

Time Management via Medical instructing

Using Time management skills toward my Medical instructing program I am able to instruct my students, give them the information they need, provide them with focused instruction, and to complete tasks required by the program.

Handling Scope Creep

Some ideas toward handling scope creep are:

-breath and meditate on the problem before making a decision

-sleep on the problem for a day or two providing deadlines will be met

-clarify ideas on problems by communicating to stakeholders and maybe a possible internal workplace blog or threaded discussion

-getting everyones ideas involved can give the project manager a more enhanced way in making a sound logical decision
