Elizabeth,

I agree that orientation is very important. But having faculty and students follow what was communicated in orietnation is just as important. For ex. In orientation dress code is introduced and discussed thoroughtly. Piercings, white shoes, a clean and pressed uniform and all tatoos covered are just part of our dress code. Many times the student arrives on the first day of class violating the dress code. Now it is the faculty member who must enforce the dress code requiremetns. If they do not students who do follow rules become disenchanted with the rules and discontent and disrespect to school rules may surface.
