I try to follow Carol Dweck's GROWTH MINDSET ideas here. For example, instead of starting my class with posted essential questions, I know label them as Learning Targets with "I can" statements. As the students read the Learning Targets, they take ownership for the daily objectives and seem to gain confidence as the lesson progresses.
