Student Empowerment for Learning Success --> Student Empowerment Profiled

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

Student ownership is the level of learner engagement and responsibility in their education, developed when students have meaningful input into what, how, and where they learn and recognize the value of their investment in the learning process.

If the students feel they have a "say" or some control in their learning, success improves.

One valuable take away from the course's content so far is that assignments need to be designed in a way where student feels invested in their learning.

From this module, I learned that students need to see the value in what they are learning, not just view it as a requirement for a degree or job. I plan to apply this by sharing my own experiences each course—how exposure to new ideas and concepts has increased my desire to keep learning. I see myself as a lifelong learner, and I want students to understand that knowledge is power and something to be proud of, because it’s something no one can take away.

Student investment requires students to think that there is more than just learning the subject matter. The instructor must paint a broader picture. Connect the dots.

Its been my experience that without motivation, there is no empowerment, no matter how many teaching styles an instructor can come up with. Younger students focus more on games then books; the older generation who actually pay for their education would have no choice to find their motivation to succeed in leaning.

Reinforcing the classroom content with (lots of ) real-world examples will give the students a clearer view of the path into their chosen career.

Instilling a sense of ownership in the student can be a tough sell and requires the instructor to stay abreast of latest technology so he/she can instill thst sense of ownership in the student and keep the student focused on the the goals of his/her education.

The more I can relate their learning to their future career in nursing, the more they will take ownership of their learning and feel engaged.

Students who are engaged and want to learn with the teaching provided,  will study and realize this will benefit their goals in a successful future.

I am a big proponent of students taking ownership of their learning. This lesson brought in some get ideas to mindfully add in things to ensure that is done.

The more students can understand how the course work relates to personal life and overall outcome, the more vested and empowered they will be.

This reinforcing our efforts to include outreach community service projects, so that the students are compassionate for their patients,

If a student and their support structure is involved and invested, the outcomes will lean more towards the positive.

The more invested they are, the better their chance of success is.

This reinforced for me the importance of connection to the adult learners. Reestablishing the "why" they are enrolled in a program, so we can connect the importance of the class to their why.

Based on the text, we learn that student ownership is a deep level of investment where learners are involved in learning, teaching, and leadership. It arises from a strong connection to the content, methods, and environment of their education, and must be actively nurtured by institutions and faculty who demonstrate their own investment.

Instructors can contribute to student empowerment by building confidence and guiding ways to become successful.

I often refer to this as "buying in" meaning you will get out of this what you put in.  Some students do not see the value of the course content.
