In-House vs. Off the Shelf

Has anyone had issues with working with Learning Platforms that have been developed in-house?

Yes, I did at a school a few years ago. The biggest problem was the IT head that set it all up, quit in a huff and we knew little to nothing about supporting it. It was Access based, so we found a company that had a similar program that helped, but it wa s real nightmare.

We have developed an in-house system. It has taken almost twenty years of constant changes and upgrades. It is a never ending struggle. Though it has many advantages, cost would be the number one set-back.

Thank you for this information since we were considering Access as one effort for us to try to begin this process.

Yes. There were online assignments which would not register at the time that the student would take them - at least not on their view. I would have to constantly check the gradebook for each student and each assignment to inform them of whether it was recorded.

We have the same kinds of issues with in-house leaning system. We have even resorted to using the same information for in house to keep up the student records
