Leadership philosophy

Managers sometimes choose between transactional and transformational leadership styles. Transactional leaders focus more on performance and results; transformational leaders prefer to focus on shared values. Sometimes the values discussed in tranformational conversations touch on personal beliefs that one may feel are not relevant to the job. How can you express to your manager that you feel your performance should not be judged by how deeply you embrace stated values?

Thomas,
good question. I think you need to try & help your manager separate performance review from coaching. If I hire you to do a job, we may not agree on anything in our personal lives & hold very different values, but if you do the job I hired you to do, I owe you your "reward." This can be very tough, but managers must do this.
