It is important that students practice writing for different situations and audiences.
Today's students do plenty of informal writing in their emails, blogs, and web pages.
This is true. There are many avenues for informal writing used today.
However, it is critical to practice writing formal documents including business memos, proposals, etc.
These types of professional documents are essential in our modern business world.
I agree. The web tools we use has made it where we are able to quickly condense an idea, but still make it understandable. However, students still have to learn how to pull a part information to make it understandable to a wider audience. This is very important for policy and procedure manuals, proposals, etc.
