Student participation

Could the students possibly create the word puzzles?

Shaun, yes. Having the students create the puzzle creates ownership of the content and a collaborative learning approach.

When we are doing our jeopardy review, I pair the students into two's and have them make up their own categories and questions for their classmates. It works well

Bridget, you know when they are making up the questions, they are going through the material in a relevant way.

I love the idea of having the students create the puzzles because students learn more and retain better when they become the teachers.

sheila, I agree. This gives them ownership and connection to the content.

When ever the material is presented in a form other than watching someone stand in front of them talking makes the students more engaged. And when the students are allowed to create the puzzles and games they learn by having fun.

This is such a good idea and can be given as a fun homework assignment. An individual can be chosen at the end of each class to make the activity and can be used for a future class as a good way to review the material which has already been presented.

Active student participation is very important.
In this way we can evaluate a student that a an
individual student is interested or not, the student is learning or not. If the student is actively participating in the class we ca easily
retain the student also.

i feel that if a student is that far ahead of the class, it is a wonderful project for the student to make a learning tool for the future. Extra credit can be awarded for their time and accomplishments.

Ronald, this is a great plan for the fast, high achieving student who can invest time in gathering more information than just the basic.

This could be a great homework assignment. Have each student create a crossword puzzle on a topic or chapter. Then use the created puzzles in class for a team challenge activity.

Kim, what you are describing is a win win situation. The students get to review content multiple times as well as learn it when creating the puzzles.

I agree, when the students step into the educator role I have seen that they are learning and retaining more information as well.

Allowing the students to create puzzles and/or questions for class activities, increases their buy-in to the course and content. I've seen students develop questions that will challenge their co-learners thinking. It is a great way to get them involved.

Monica, it is amazing that students write harder questions than I would have for their peers to answer.
