Individual Activities
I teach both on ground and online and I typically incorporate a crossword puzzle and/or a word search about halfway through my lectures. I like this for several reasons. It gives the student a break from the lecture, I can use this as a quiz, and I can also see how much information the student is retaining which will set the tone for the next half of my lecture.
Melissa, you are smart to use the crosswords/wordsearches as quizzes. This is a low anxiety approach to testing that can ease the anxiety of traditionally anxious test takers.
Melissa, this is a great idea. Often times students become overwhelmed with the content given during a lecture and a crossword puzzle would certainly be an alternative to an entire class of lecturing.
Too much of any type of teaching method can be a deficit to any classroom. Variety is the key.
