Impact of social media

Are students capable to look beyond interenet?

I have noticed the students using social media for their benifit. Searcing for information, instructional videos, and chatting with their class mates. I have also noted the lowest level of human experinece related to gossip or hurtful manipulation on Social media. I am optimistic the students will make a choice, as mature members of the workforce, to look beyond social media.

I feel the students can look beyond social media, however it may be a little difficult. We have to make resources outside of the internet relavant and interesting. In today's generation, there is so much reliance on seeking solutions on the internet as opposed to taking the time to do good old fashion reading and research.

I think this question raises an "opportunity" for instructor of today. Depending on the subject matter, the outside-internet opportunities vary and should be sought out, encouraged or used.

Using social media in the classroom can be used as a tool if done correctly and monitored. By utilizing social media you can bridge the gap of current technology and education. The access is immediate and convenient. The generation gap between student and teacher is the obstacle, educate yourself on its benefits and pit falls as well. Use its education value as a resource not a hindrance.
