It is important for the instructor to be able to identify with his or her students to figure out different methods that make learning interesting and enjoyable. Also,the use of various types of instructional techniques help students retain information.

Oh yes, the more variety the better. SAs you state, there all kinds of people and learning styles and personality types. Good instructors are able to relate to all equally.
