Senses in Learning

Anyone know of ways we can help our students move their senses to “high alert” so that they will, more easily, absorb what is required?

Hi Chuck:
Attentive students have all their senses tuned in. When they understand the expectations, are motivated and stimulated to learn, and provided a learning environment conducive to learning, they will be more likely to retain the lesson material.

Keeping the information interesting, engaging students, and providing the media that is appropriate for the delievry are all methods that will help students use their senses in the learning.

I also try to make sure the classroom is at the right temperature and the lighting is comfortable. That way the students are focused on the material and not focused on the room.

Hi Hope:
Boy, so trure. How can a student focus when they're sitting there shivering or feel hot and stuffy?

Also, sometimes the room lighting is difficult when presenting a PPT - either too light for good projection or too dark for student to read and or take notes.
