I learned about ways that veterans can be supported and how important this is. I was also surprised to learn that IEPs do not follow students to college.

As a high school teacher, I was surprised by the statistics and realize that I must have students with PTSD and need to increase my awareness.

I need to be sure to know that there are many long standing effects that can happen to students.

Children experiencing PTSD often manifest symptoms differently than adults, frequently displaying behavioral changes such as regressive actions, repetitive trauma-themed play, or heightened separation anxiety rather than standard verbal expressions of distress.

I learned that students’ cultural backgrounds, family circumstances, and religious beliefs can influence their educational experiences and success. I will apply this by creating an inclusive classroom, respecting individual differences, and avoiding assumptions about students based on their backgrounds. I will also use diverse examples and resources in my high school science lessons so all students feel represented and supported.

As a high school teacher, I need to provide different ways for students to demonstrate their learning, such as observations, journals, checklists, and classroom activities. Using multiple forms of assessment can help me better understand each student’s strengths, needs, and progress. I also learned that assessments should guide my instruction and help me make changes to better support all students in reaching their learning goals.

In this module I reflected on the importance of checks for understanding and the need for more frequent and short checks for understanding. I think these are so important so that students do not get behind and I can assess learning more frequently. Ensuring that the questions are high quality and thought provoking is important.

I have learned about how important is it is create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. Learning about students strengths and interests is a great way to connect with students and this can be even more useful for our MLL students.

I found it interesting to read how communities are growing more diverse and that we need to be aware of the differences that our students are coming with. We want to be sure that all students are challenged and supported at the same time.

I appreciate the discussion of how instructors are responsible for engaging students with learning disabilities, despite their tendency to withdraw from the discussion.
