M. Clinger, you make an excellent point here and this is, indeed, the continuous challenge to teachers in which ever generation! Staying relevant means that teachers as well as students must continue to learn.

Sylvia, what specifically do you think you would benefit from using the SmartBoard with your students?
Yes, William. With new technology, along with great guidance from instructors, leaves most students without excuse these days!
Discussion Comment
Yes, M. Clinger. It sounds like you use blogs with your students. How does this technology help support their learning, in your experience? Do you have "kick back" from any students when you ask them to use the technology? Has your integration of the technology in a course changed over time? If so, how? I found that I had to replan the actual assignments and also provide quite a bit of context and direction for the students beforehand so that their work would be focused and helpful to them. What do you think?
I agree, M. Clinger. Please elaborate on your ideas if "using the technology" as it relates to those skills you mention.

Indeed, however, the research must be contextualized well for the student and have a practical application so that he/she will remember it. So, while there are so many information sources, our job as sintructors must continually be to guide, support, and evaluate the process and application of that information alongside the student's efforts.

Thanks for your comments, Renee.  Do you think building self-directed skills and learner autonomy in students can happen more efficiently in a blended environment than either fully online or fully F2F?

How is distance or online learning either or both moving away from f2f instructional design and instruction?
I think it would be helpful to share ideas on how you have seen success with your students becoming more independent and self-motivated as learners. Have you experienced your students taking control of their own learning process? If so, what did you do to facilitate that?
Certainly, Greg, the importance of each individual student is vital. However, how can using the Internet as an instructional tool help to build both the skills and knowledge base for our students?
