Indeed, Kim, and learning to use the Internet well, will help students go on learning even during employment. Good points... Do you think that integrating the Internet also changes how students think, use and apply information? If so, how should this change how we plan instruction and work with students as they learn?
Discussion Comment
Yes, Kim, and I hope you are successful in getting a board soon :) Think about the possibility to collaborate, capture and send the exchanges to all students. This takes the process well beyond the confines of the class.
Discussion Comment
Yes, Luis, so learning can become global and wider in scope than ever before. It does change how we approach instruction at all levels. What do you think are the most important changes for instructors? What are the essential characteristics of effective teachers and effective designs of instruction in today's contexts of learning?
So, instructional design and planning is required more than ever, John. When flexibility means chaos, then the entire point has been missed :)
Indeed, John, and that can enrich the learning environment if and when teachers encourage the integration of the information researched using those tools rather than presetting content to the exclusion of all else. Teachers can sometimes be threatened with the autonomy that can now be attained by students using new tools. The challenge is for teachers to support the learning process. Good points...

Yes, and your second point is so important, Stacey. Digital technology means we can capture and reuse/send/modify work as we go. This gives teachers direct access to understanding the progress of their students as well as help build collaborative skills in students.
Excellent, Sharon. Thank you for sharing this example and its success.
Yes, Sharon, new technology does have an effect on how students learn and their engagement with that learning which is the main reason for retention. What role do you as an instuctor play in the process (that is keeping students engaged and retained)?
Discussion Comment
...so in all, Stacey, how do these functions support and enhance the learning of your students?
Excellent points, Sharon. I like your ideas on processing as it relates both to the technology and learning - digital processing (text, graphhics, media etc) then the processing of learning. Have you connected the two in your teaching practice? What I mean is recognizing that the two rely on processes rather than individual tasks - interesting :)
