Self- reflection: ethical decisions for leaders

While reviewing this course, a quote about ethics within the workplace really stood out to me: "unethical decisions often come from working in isolation." As an [informal] leader, I strive to bring my team together by representing and upholding my own personal values and the values projected by my organization. This quote really struck out because it reminded me of how I used to feel: isolated. In my isolation (both in my personal and professional life), I became the worse version of myself. Thankfully, I was made connections that encouraged me to leave my previous environment and take another opportunity. During my transition of my profession, I got the opportunity to meet some new members of my team that made something switch inside me- I wanted them to never experience what I did and to become something akin to what I used to be. I stepped outside of my comfort zone and personally took on a role that I wish I had and worked towards being a mentor to all those around me. I have grown so much more than I thought possible, and I have had so many opportunities given regarding leadership and development. Every day is a new learning opportunity, and even today this module humbled me by listing unethical decisions/ behaviors and examples that I have been guilty of performing. I never considered some behavior listed as 'unethical', but the module presented the behaviors in a way I can actually identify and apply. I can't wait to take this new reflection and recognize how to correct unethical decisions and behaviors seen within myself and others going forward.
