Providing new faculty a robust orientation is crucial for their success. The orientation needs to be multifaceted and a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities. 

Onboarding new faculty is a critical process to ensure they feel supported, informed, and integrated into the institution’s culture. A well-structured onboarding program can help new faculty become effective and confident in their roles, while also fostering a sense of community and engagement.

Idividual requirements as well and state requirements are important to consider when hiring faculty.

I think the importance of faculty knowing the expectations as an online instructor and also knowing ahead the criteria by which they are evaluated. 

Faculty onboarding for online courses requires consistent oversight to ensure faculty have successfully completed each aspect of training.

New faculty need lots of review for their courses to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of feedback for students and for graded online assignments.

The best way to orient new faculty is to utilize the LMS in their orientation. This will give them familiarity from the students perspective. 

Online faculty need a robust orientation prior to teaching their first class in order to help them be successful.

Ensure faculty are thoroughly onboarded on all facets of their requirements, but spread out that onboarding over a period of time. 

Understanding the reasoning behind accreditation standards gives new faculty a great insight as to WHY they must follow the standards.  Seeing and knowing what the standards are allows new faculty to ask any questions if they see something they might not understand.

The institution should have a detailed, outlined training plan to ensure new faculty are trained fully to the institutions policies, regulations, and procedures.  

I found myself re-thinking how we onboard and train new faculty members. Although I feel we do a good job, it seems to me we could be doing so in a more thoughtful, streamlined manner.

This training provided me with practical tools on how to implement an effective monitoring system to determine best practices in an online instructional setting. Additionally, 

Communication is paramount to any online education. Keeping faculty engaged through out the process is key.

It is important to use a phased approach in orienting and training new faculty and to ensure that state regulatory and accreditation rules are met

It is best for new hires to be oriented on the LMS that they will be using in their courses. 

 

State regualtions for faculty and programmatic accreditation are required when hiring faculty.

There are constant changes in regulations that must be reviewed on a regualr basis

 

It is just as important, if not more, to have a structured and clearly defined on-boarding plan for online faculty as it is for on-campus faculty. If instructors do not know what is expected, then they will not know what parameters to meet or exceed in their position. A multi-phase on-boarding can help to ease staff into the LMS, and provide a more seemless transition into the institutions SOP's and best practices. It is important to considered state and accreditor regulations and requirments when selecting instructors and deciding which programs they are able to teach.

Communication in online courses is very important, it can be synchronous or asynchronous but there must be communication links at all times
