The section on gradually increasing students’ exposure to machinery made me think about how instructors determine when a student is ready to operate equipment independently. There is a lot of professional judgment involved, especially in a lab where students may be working on several different tasks at once. I’m curious how those decisions vary across programs and how instructors document student readiness.
I'd like to explore this with our teachers during professional learning. I think their experiences could lead to some useful conversations about equipment-specific instruction, supervision, and the routines they've developed to keep students safe.
