Separation of Function

Has your school had any issues with the separation of function and conflict of interest issues and if so, how were they resolved?

No, because the functions are separate.

No. Our responsibilities are well defined and separate. If there are any issues regarding the awarding or disbursing of funds, we all meet to discuss and develop an action plan.

We have not have issues with the separation of functions. All officers perform separate functions.

My campus has not had any issues with separation of function because our departments function in different capacities. There was a time where the FA department and Bursar were located in the same area and even then there was a clear division of duties and responsibilities.

Tracy,

That is good to hear! The two offices can share space and even have one person act as a receptionist for both offices. As long as the same person does not award and disburse funds.

Our school has not had any issues with separation of duties. We have sound written procedures clearly defining the responsibilites of each the financial aid department and student accounting. These policies are strickly enforced.

No. What the financial aid office does and the bursar's office does is clearly defined and separate. However, a lot of our students think that the financial aid office handles bursar related issues and we are often lumped together. Because of that, I think we need to do a better job and letting the students know who they need contact when they have certain issues.
