Pell Disbursements

I might just be missing this somewhere in a previous lesson, but does Pell have to be disbursed during the first week of the period? Our institution disburses all funds at the same time (during the 4th week for current students, the 8th week for new/re-entry students).

Sarah,

Funds should be delivered to students at the earliest point you determine eligibility. Federal Pell does not have to be disbursed in the first week but you do need a policy on when you determine the student is eligible and the enrollment status. Some colleges have Add/Drop periods and do not disburse until after the add/drop period closes.

Sincerely, Chyrl

Sarah,

We receive pell in two equal disbursements throughout the loan period. Payment period one is usually disbursed within the first 30 days from the start date and payment period two is disbursed whenever students meet mid-point of the academic year and that is credit hours and weeks as well.

Thank you,

Hi Sarah, Just to touch a little more on your question. My institution disburses at week 5 and week 8. We do this to ensure the students are attending and making academic progress. All first time borrower funds cannot be disbursed until 30 days, meaning we do not pull for first time borroweres until week 8. Also disbursing for all at once seems to comply with our students.
