Developing Financial Aid Understanding

Assisting Students and Parents to understand the difference between Grants, Loans, and Campus Based Funds. Communication with Parents on how important it is to assist in the Financial Aid process and applying for the PLUS loans instead of alternative financing such as 401K, etc.

Peggy,

Good comments. Having both students and parents understanding financial aid is a tremendous help to the financial aid office in terms of having necessary documents completed and submitted by students and parents accurately and timely. The ultimate goal of the financial aid office is helping both students and parents.

Thanks, John

It is important for a parent to assist in the financial aid process of a dependent student. To insure that everyone understands the different between Grants and Loans. It would be great if a parent has alternative means to assist the student in meeting their financial obligation without having to apply for a PLUS loan. Thats one less possible defaulted loan.

Patricia,

It is important for parents to be involved in the FA process for their dependent student; however, it is sometimes difficult to get them involved. A members of the college's tema should participate in getting the parents involved in the FA process to insure complete understanding of FA.

Thanks, Chyrl

Parent participation is extremely important on a dependent student. Parents are misinformed a lot of times by the student. I think it should be mandatory for their participation

Marie,

Whenever one is dealing with a dependent student the process will be smoother if the parents participate. It will ensure that the FA Administrator is providing a consistent message to student and parent. Over the years I have found that spouse are important to the process for the married student. It is always important to provide a consistent message to all of the support system of the student.

Your participation in the forum is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Chyrl
