Orientation

What Makes an Effective Orientation Program?

Holmer,

There is a lot of literature on orientations. the key is to remember that orientation is not a one day event. It is a process.

Jeffrey Schillinger

I believe knowing what your outcome should be, prepares you for an effective orientation. I want my new hire to be ready for their first day knowing where to go, knowing the expectation, and most importantly, knowing where to go for help or questions.

knowing your staff and policies and procedures of the company

Take orientation one step at a time. I tell my new instructors that I am giving them information, but I don't expect them to know everything in one day. I have them Audit for the first week, so they get down how the classes go, then give them something new each week to work on.

Elanor,

The audit is a good strategy. Thanks for sharing it.

Knowing what to say during orientation is a must, you would have to show all new colleagues that you are superior. Giving them all the DO's and all the DONT's.
