I think that Havighurst 'task theory' is really not very different from Erickson Stages of development. Each have a series of development tasks that need to be accomplished to successfully move to the next stage or task. Age does make a difference in a persons development solely because there are certain 'tasks' that cannot be developed or accomplished at younger ages because of mental/psychological/social growth of a person. A child, for example is incapable of accomplishing an adult or even an adolescent task.
