Being new to higher education and nto as knowledgable of the healthcare field as I would want to be, one of my main take aways is to dive into the curriculum and inductry. Make sure that you are informed and knowledgeable of the field because this can ruin your credibility which can ruin relationships. The engagement are important and they grow/evolve over time with employers. You want to make sure that each are receiving benefits from the engagement.

Great take aways! I like the idea of having the student reflect upon the interview afterwards as an activity. We do that now, however; I think it could be more of a learning activtiy vs a talking point and transition into feedback from myself.

Doing the proper research on a company or interviewer will be helpful to connect and make a first impression during the interview. This will help the student's nerves by seeing the interviewer connect with them.

Effective communication is so important between the advisor and student. It is often difficult to build rapport when you do not have an opportunity to meet in person much or at all. Wording of an email is important. One must take in consideration how the reader will perceive what is written when received. There are ways you can subtly build rapport through written communication. Emoticons, key phrases, use of student's name etc. You want to make sure you acknowlege and understand what a student is asking or what their goal is of the conversation. Keep conversations on the sunny side… >>>

It is important to help the student form their own decisions. Steer the conversation by asking questions and using varying techniques to improve motivation. Do not do the work for the student which can cause dependency instead coach and guide them to their own conclusions.

TheĀ  GROW model is a good way to help the student become more confident in their descirion making skills. We want to encourage, motivate and guide the student to make confident informed decision on their own behalf versus pushing them into an idea. While providing feedback this can either help with your connection with the student or hinder. As a CSA, one must be very mindful of their own self and how they come across. Find out what matters to the student and go from there. Help them identify any obstacles and develop solutions or ways to overcome those obstacles… >>>

I have learned that the more you learn and understand about the student, their background, values, interests, needs etc. the best you can assist them and coach. As a CSA you want to have a non-judgemental approach and show empathy towards students to develop rapport. There are many external factors that can affect this coaching relationship, therefore, it is beneficial to know where the students stands in the coaching process. By atively listening to students you can show that you care about their career journey and ultimately theirselves.

Communication and Collaboration is needed for group online coursework. Providing a Rubric is helpful to keep everyone on the same page of standards for the assignment. We want to build community that allows the students to speak on varying topics comfortably and openly.

Communication expectations need to be clear.

When using online platforms you want to be clear with what your expectations of students are. The Rubric is helpful and give a visual for responses for participation. Be transparent and provide your students with the tricks to being successful. This will help you be organized and develop an effective communication process. I like the FAQs tip and limiting traffic to email.

There are many communication platforms today and we are to choose the right format that helps students and instructors communicate effectively.

By understanding the purpose of using the specific communication  platform and receiving feedback from students one can adjust the process as needed to better support the course needs.

Documentation is key. If it wasn't documented it did not happen. It is best to write case notes as you go when they are fresh in your mind. You are to be detailed using the facts. You will use primarily objective language, but sometimes need to add in subjective comments from the student. When verifying employment writing job descriptions can be time consuming if not written properly. It is best to be detailed and mention all the KSA's in the description. You are to do so by providing all information as if the person reading the description is unfamiliar with… >>>
