Linda, Thanks for your organized thoughts. You are right on track. The students must know what is expected of them, they must feel secure, and must be communicated to in a clear way. I love the where, how, what who and when approach. Nice job.

George, The accomplishment of the course outcomes is essential. It sounds as though you are implementing a variety of teaching techniques. This is excellent in that it helps students learn and achieve the set objectives. Your assessment piece is correct as well. It's essential to not only assess in a summative format at the end of the course, but formatively throughout the course. Getting feedback from students is essential in making the course better so that students can meet set goals. Nice job. Thanks!

Just as with any class (whether F2F or online) there are students with specific needs. Encourage your students to provide specific information about those needs and tell them you will accommodate as best you can. There are circumstances where you may need to involve others to assist you in the accommodations. However, there are some simple things you can do. For example, if you record your voice over PowerPoint or use another software package to do the same, provide the script for students to read as well. And, vice versa - if you provide a reading, there are some software… >>>

Don, You are right - there is nothing wrong with KISS! Using technology should not be viewed as "the saving thing" but a way to "enhance learning." You don't have to use every technology out there, but what works for you, your students, and the course contents. Your last statement sums it up: ". . .use it appropriately." Thanks!
Nancy, You are on target! Thanks for your input. It is important to evaluate your online course in a variety of ways. You are right. The main outcome is to improve the course, communication, navigation, etc. It's also important to remember that you don't just ask for feedback at the end of a course, but throughout the course. Nice job. Thank you.
Bill, Nice job. Thanks again for all of your input. Feedback from peers and students is a great combination. Having peers join in from the student perspective is an excellent way to get a feel from both aspects. Thanks!
Bill, Nice job again. Thank you. You are right on track. The point you bring up about "not criticize" is important. . .constructive criticism may need to be used, but just to criticize students' work is not helpful. Thinking about the method of feedback, as you note, is important too. It is also important to let students know how quickly you will return papers and provide feedback. Thank you.

Bill, Thanks you for your well thought out response. You bring up some very good points. Using the proper tools to design, develop and teach in an online environment are essential. As you transition from teaching face-to-face (F2F) to the online environment, you are on the right track. Nice job!

Instructors may use a variety of teaching styles.  It is important for instructors to think about how they teach, identify if it is connected to how they learn, and recognize that not all students may learn through the same way.  When investigating or developing teaching styles, authoritative instructors tend to be more teacher-centered and believe they are responsible for providing content.  This provides for less student engagement.  If this is the instructor’s preferred teaching style, they should realize students need interaction and provide such interaction. As an online instructor, you should be more of a facilitator of knowledge with student-centered… >>>
