Thomas, Thanks for the information. It is a good idea to do a little diagnostic assessment of what your students know before beginning any class. This helps you get to know your students more and get a feel for their needs. Providing your content in a variety of ways is essential as well. Thanks again.
George, I agree that evaluations should come from several sources. As a colleague may review your course for content or instructional strategies, your students may review the course design or let you know what is not easily accessed or understood. It's a never ending process. Keep asking for feedback and revise the course content, layout, etc. Thanks for your input. Tena
John, Again, nice job. Being consistent in your grading and helping students understand what is expected of them is essential. Helping them learn from their mistakes by finding their mistakes is key to many different types of subjects. Nice job.

John, You bring up some good questions and I liked that you worded your answers as questions. It gives us something to ask ourselves and something to think about. Being prepared as an online instructor is very important. It's essential to know what you are capable of and where you need additional training. Your note about the course being well prepared goes along with your information about the instructor being prepared as well. The mentor can many times help you in this process. Excellent.
George, Feedback, feedback, feedback. . .you are right. It's so important. As you communicate the objectives also include them in the grading rubric. This helps students tie what they are learning to why they are learning it. Nice job.

George, Thanks for you input. It seems that you are taking the ball and running wide open in your online classroom. Your syllabus is the first point of communication and it provides students will a place to go to make sure they are on track and meeting learning outcomes. Using a variety of communication tools such as discussion boards, chats, wikis, blogs, etc. is important. Therefore, students can learn in a variety of ways. If you can add video and/or two-way video so students can see you and you can see them, it brings a whole new dimension to learning.… >>>

Shelly, Thanks again for the information and thoughts you provide through these forums. I agree that asking students to self-check before submitting work is beneficial to them and you. I've also used it for peer evaluation. A rubric helps students understand what is expected and helps the instructor grade in a consisten fashion. Nice job.
