michael, We have to evaluate everything we do, that's for sure. But, you're right on target when you say we have to make sure the language is clear. The criteria and categories are the key. If they are not clear, the rubric will be more confusing to the students than helpful. This is never good. ;-)
John, Ah - the ultimate goal - helping students achieve the learning objectives. Keep up the good work.
John, that's what it's all about. We have to love to learn to be a teacher. Thanks!

John, I have a funny story about a student wanting to be called by a nickname. I had the class log in for synchronous classes and I took attendance at these classes. The students logged in with their names and I had each turn their camera on and introduce themselves and this one young man logged in as "Squirrel" and also introduced himself as "Squirrel" as he said that's what everyone called him. John, You are doing everything to set the stage so that students know what to expect from the course and you. I like the idea of inspirational quotes as well. Thanks!

John and Roger, We do tend to become more efficient in our work and communication with students. Writing directions is also a part of the communication process and making them clear is essential. Thanks for the tip.

John, Excellent. When we designate specific time for specific duties we are more likely to "get the job done" as needed. We do learn to multi-task, but organization skills and priority management skills help us with that as well. Thanks!
John, You have just described three very important communication documents - welcome letter, biography, and syllabus. These help the students better understand the expectations, the instructor, and start to feel as a part of the learning community. Great job.

Christina, Definitely. We have to take everything back to the objectives. We want to make sure the rubric is measuring what it is supposed to measure and it is beneficial in helping the students understand the expectations and improve in their learning. Thanks!

Christina, You're right. The time and effort to create a viable rubric is well worth it. Also, you'll be able to use the rubric over and over again with a few tweaks and may even be able to adjust the same rubric for another course or project. That's a time saver too. Thanks!
