When I was originally employed, students were not subject to a indepth background check. By working in the healthcare/medical field, I find it almost necessary in todays society. One reason why I agree it is so necessary is because most physicians will want to be ensured that they are hiring an trustworthy and honest person. Clearly, a physician would not want to jeopardize or put his/her business at risk for embezzlement. This way, when background checks are performed, we are ensuring the potential employer that the student passed the check. Unfornately, we cannot be held liable/responsible if students encounter any… >>>

I really learned an indepth amount of information regarding Do Not Call. I learned that regardless if a student drops or withdraws, ongoing contact can still be made to the student. I assumed originally that if we continously call students for example regarding an outstanding balance, under state law, once the account has not been paid within 90 days, the account can be turned over to an collection agency. This in return would mean that no further contact past 90 days would be sufficient. I was totally unware that we can continue to call students up to 18 months. Very interesting..... Sabrina Robinson

I just took the assessment quiz. One question in particular puzzled me. The question was "customer service should be a focus for all staff and faculty when working with students. I agree that regardless to what job you have working with people, customer service should be priority. The correct answer reflected that students are paying for an education. Again, I agree however students are paying for the opportunity to learn the skills to make them marketable in the field. I do not think it is necessary to say you pay for an education, it is the opportunity.

I was really enlightened with mentoring. I was able to look it at from another view. I learned the importance of how it is critical to model, mentor and monitor the students. As an instructor, we should always lead by example.
The importance of using the syllabi and following it is a goal that I try to set every quarter. The reason simply is because students follow it. They expect you as the instructor to follow it. I think it helps prepare them in advance regarding what and how the agenda will be for every class session. We hold students accountable and constantly preach responsibilty. So why not, students should hold instructors accountable as well for our responsibilities as an instructor.

I have been teaching for over 4 years now and professionalism is so important. I agree that we as instructors must be an example for our students. Students are watching everyday to see how we are going to react to certain situations. We constantly teach them about soft skills in class however when we are not in the school environment they are constantly still watching. Professionalism is important everywhere we go.

I could actually relate to this topic. When I first began teaching, I was a little hesitant by eye contact with students. I quickly realized that you must CONNECT with students. You simply cannot connect if there is no contact made.

I enjoyed this topic on powerpoints. I use powerpoints generally for all classes that I teach. Students seem to appreciate keypoints of the overall lecture. I agree that you must be careful with the audio simply because you want to keep the focus on the lecture and not to distract them with sounds.

I really enjoyed this topic. I was able to easily figure out what type of instructor I am. I am a very passionate person who cares about my students. Everyone single one. It is imperative for me to know every student involved in my program. I agree that is very important to take a look at yourself because we as facilitators should set the example for our students. This is something that instructors should do day in and out. There is a common saying "practice what we preach". It should reflect in our daily lives especially for our students to… >>>

Patricia, One strategy that I use with my students is: ~I show and tell my students what I want from them. I have learned that when you get what you want, you should acknowledge it. Never praise it. Sabrina
