So, Jon, do you think that this kind of responsibility is good or bad for the students?
Discussion Comment
Indeed. Jay, and, in turn, what does this kind of access mean for students in their learning process?
Discussion Comment
Yes, Anwar. Internet technology makes this possible, however, changes must be made in the design of instruction to facilitate this. What kinds of design changes do you think are the most important?
Yes and technology can provide inclusive and integrated contexts within which this kind of holistic learning can take place. Tearee, why do you think many instructors struggle with this concept?
Yes, Tearee, good points. So the instructor must make sure that the time with students in f2f environments are active rather than passive. In your experience, how has your instructional design changed to accomodate this?
Yes, John, the technology should support the learning process which must be driven by learning outcomes rather than tasks. How do you make sure the learning process is being supported in your classes while using technology?
Yes, Anwar, the blend of in-class and out-of-class learning opportunities provide a great way to develop autonomous learners in our students. How can you as an instructor facilitate the process in such a way that students experience a balance of self-directed and teacher-supported learning?
So, Carlton, given the challenge of time, how could new technology be used to create and support evaluations that are more authentic and applied?
Discussion Comment
All of these also increase the potential for students to take more responsibility for their own learning, Jon. Providing access to information and resources is, as you say, efficient and expecting students to find and use those resources is vital for students to mature as learners.
Discussion Comment
Great ideas and suggestions, Jon. There is also the possibility of students contributing to course texts and students contributing to knowledge bases that could then be searched and edited, something like a Wiki. What do you think are some of the barriers that exist that prevent or limit this kind of direct application for students?
