Great point, Jamie. Teachers must constantly check for understanding and having students re-tell or explain in their own words is a great way to do this. These new tools simply make the process more accessible and also "captured" for others to read/observe.
I'm not sure what you mean, Jessie. Can you be more specific about the kind of redirection to which you're referring?
So, Jessie, how can teachers still teach the face-to-face skills while still using the new technology tools?

So with the interactive white board, John, the thoughts and input of the students can still be captured and integrated into the learning environment without bringing the "spot light" to the student.

Absolutely, John. That is why the immediacy of the Internet can not only augment courses but truly support the learning of the students. This does present challenges, however, to teachers as to how to integrate new information and knowledge consistently.
Excellent examples, Andrea. Thank you for sharing...
Training with new technology has two aspects, Andrea. There is the training in which faculty can be taught how the technolgy works, then there is the innovative use. The second of these involves some risk and also evaluation of best uses of the technology and requires faculty to involve themselves in the hands-on use.

Yes, Robert, so correct steps should be taken to secure copyright permission which is why planning often takes longer for technology-enriched courses than traditional courses.
Ok, so Jasen and Scott...how, then, can teachers work with the students to still develop the kinds of social skills you see as missing? We cannot rely on technology, as we all know, but can use it to enhance what we already need to teach while at the same time making use of new skills that are being developed as a result of the technology use. Good discussion...

Great point, Jasen. My thinking is that the technology can provide ongoing learning outside the welding sessions, however, to where the hands on sessions are more effective. Would you agree?
