Good points, Salena. Technolgy remains the tool; students are users and teachers are the facilitators of that use.

'Just wondering, Walter, how you think the I-Pad touch screen and multitasking technology might enhance the environment beyond the tablet PC...? Of course we would have to wait for the next version to access Flash :)

Thanks, Walter. This is a good summary of the capabilities of the technology and the impact on teaching and learning. Heightened interactivity increases student engagement. Also, the collaborative potential maximizes the use of this technology in establishing communities of learners among students.

Randolph, I don't reall understand your point here. Could you elaborate?
Roger, how involved do you see students in the design of their own learning path?
Randolph, do you think that distraction is a direct result of new technology use? My sense is that keeping students on task has always been a challenge for teachers.

This is a good summary of the many changes the Internet has brought to teaching and learning, Walter. I'm not sure what you mean by "reduced all student competence". Can you explain? The idea that students require guidance as to what resources are credible is not new, just more challenging with the vast amounts of information now available.
Great points about timely feedback from instructors, Salena. It is also important for instructors to follow each student's learning path through the content and guide the use of resources. How else can instructors help students who feel overwhelmed by the technology?

Excellent points, Walter. How have these changes affected your teaching methods and instructional design? How do you maximize the technology while maintaining academic rigor? These changes have challenged the very core of teaching and learning and many instructors feel overwhelmed rather than empowered. What are your thoughts?
