Interesting, Carl. So how can technology become an enhancement of that real world context rather than merely providing gadgets...? It would, of course, depend on the subject area or professional field. There are also differences in industry-specific technology and technology that can support instruction and apply learning. The challenge for the teacher is to plan instruction well based on the uses and applications of that technology to enhance learning or mediate the learning process.

Excellent points, Kim. You have included so many of the attributes of this technology: critical thinking, creativity, innovation, customization and publication. Wow!! So, realizing these amazing realities of the use of this technology, how should instructional design and teaching methodology change to maximize these affects?
Awesome responses! Of course, Math is one of those subjects difficult to handle with skill- based, hands-on learners so this is a great example of how to do that. I wonder are there other Math teachers out there with other ideas for teaching Math in a hands-on way? Thanks for starting the thread, Teresita !
Great points, Janet. I agree that instructional design is foundational as is specific industry-specific technology as you suggest.
Discussion Comment
Yes, Janet, the potential for cheating has always been with us and still is :) I do agree that teachers should be as savvy as possible, however, understanding the concepts and applications of technology on insteuction mean that the process can still be facilitated regardless of the tools.
Discussion Comment
Turned away? I have found that older students don't have the intuitive response to and expectations of technology and need more time for orientation and practice. Do you think, Mitchell, that they can still benefit instructionally as a result?

I love it, Teresita!!  This idea is so applied and helps explain complex concepts as well as complete the actual task.  What was the response of your students?

Discussion Comment
Excellent points, Sharon. What changes must as well, in your opinion, occur in teaching methods and the role of the instructor in response to the technology influences?
So what, in your opinion, Carl, does characterize an effective learner in the context of all this technology? What remains the same and what has changed in that learner profile?
Discussion Comment
Good points, Carl, so the use of library support and resources remain as important as ever!
