Yes, Michael. I heard that from students as well as my own observations...much more direct and immediate interactions are possible online.

Indeed, Michael. I would say that students learn much more than we might expect when using new technology. We should, as teachers, reward that learning as well.
I agree, Michael, that many older ideas and methods are still relevant. However, with newer technology, the results can be so much more powerful and relevant for students - both in content learning and technology skill development.
Yes, Michael, many teachers are troubled by this reality. I would suggest, however, that there are various forms of language use and we as teachers must demonstrate and inform around those uses...including digital forms of the language.
Discussion Comment
Great points, Michael. Learning styles and learning outcomes are well supporting by this flexible technology.
That is true, Tracy, although sometimes the outcomes may not be well supported or mediated in a course...therefore, they would need to be revisted as well.
Discussion Comment
Indeed - the interactive white board provides a wonderful opportunity for students to interact with every aspect of course material and all participants ...and have that interaction captured and distributed beyond the actual class.
Discussion Comment
Yes, Francis, the use of Wikis and blogs can be very successful in a learning environment - of course maximizing the differences in those as well as the similarities.
Discussion Comment
Good points, Francis. I agree that software development is critcal to cetain applications of technology use for instuction. Most software development for instructional purposes, however, happens as feedback is presented by instructors in the field. The more familiar we are with the potential of the technology, the more likely it is we will find the software we need :)
Yes, I agree, Francis. I would suggest that the learning outcomes of any current course using new technology and supporting methodology should also identify key skills associated with those challenges and that will be developed as students progress.
