Robert, Agreed. A good tool to use is a simple project plan with specific steps, status, responsibilities and next steps. This might do away with writing time consuming update memos. Ron Obstfeld

Robert, Good approach. You would still need to add structure and time frames to ensure there is no duplication of effort and that the work is getting done in a timely manner. Ron Obstfeld

Grace, Hello Grace, I appreciate your response. You make a good case. I firmly believe there is a big difference between managing and leading. Management skills can be learned and are often used interchangeably with leadership. In my opinion, a great leader is a visionary that can inspire those around them to embrace their vision and then are able implement. A great leader is not necessarily a good manager. They may tend not to be detail oriented. It is then up to the managers to ensure implementation. We need both! Of course, there are always exceptions. Thank you for your point… >>>

Grace, I diagree....Leadership is a combination of skills, intuition and trust. Only skills can be learned. Ron Obstfeld
Kelly, Sounds like you were able to bring the team together and hopefully get the desired results you wanted. Where you able to discover the root cause for the teams behavior at the beginning. How did you ensure this would not happen again? Ron Obstfeld

Steven, Good answer. My personal view is ....you can teach people to manage....but not to lead. Leadership is not so much a skill as it is a quality. Ron Obstfeld
Steven, Teams can suprise you too...if given good direction, appropriate and frequent coaching. Many times they will exceed your expectations and have a personal growth spurt. Ron Obstfeld
Wendy, Seems like this might be a good opportunity to develop your team from lessons learned and to prepare for future projects. Ron Obstfeld
Delana, Remember goal setting and goal management is an ongoing process. They require continuous communication and coaching to ensure agreed upon outcomes. Ron Obstfeld

Steven, Interesting take on the question. I would agree with you that innovation is seen through a personal lens based upon an individual's knowledge and experience....and also the ability to use these to take action. Ron Obstfeld
