I think the orientation increased my knowledge about Delta. Knowing all the roles and requirements, helps me better understand my role, and my relationship with others within the organization.

Thanks for this great training!

Hi Georgette!

Good question! Some of the challenges I have with the GS201 classes are that students are taking this online. For some it is the first online course ever, in their 2-year history with in school. For some, they took the Online Orientation 2 years prior and forgot what the online school was about. Now the Orientation is different, and they are starting students to online courses in their second quarter.

Some students don’t realize the commitment and self-discipline to login and start work. When they do start, they are overwhelmed and just want to complete the homework. Then… >>>

I love what the Orientation covered. It covered many pieces of the organization that may not have ever been touched upon during my 3+ years at Delta. Having these snapshots from the big picture about the various departments and duties, helps each individual understand each other's role, and helps all work towards… >>>

I agree Luciana! While I was going through this course, I felt like a student again! I thought about what would I like to do if I were a student? I know now I wnat to trade shoes with the students, and see what would get them excited to participate in class, and want to do homework if it is graded as soon as possible.

Those little stories we like to tell each other, the students want to talk about their story, too! I love it!

Techniques which are most effecetive:

1. Elaborative interrogation

Generating an explanation for why an explicitly stated fact or concept is true

2. Self-explanation

Explaining how new information is related to known information, or explaining steps taken

during problem solving

Good course! Used some motivational techniques such as "Best in Class" certificates for the student with the highest grade, and class participation. This piece of paper they can include in their portfolios, and can present when interviewing for a job.
