I learned that I need to get over it (smile).  Tech is here and I need to learn how to use all aspects in order to effectively select and implement those that are relevant in a nursing course.

Reply to Julie Williams's post: Thank you for your example using your husband. I can relate as I see using technology can speed up the process. I'm processing what you meant by the legitimacy of public education.  I am a product of public education when it was structured for success for each cohort of students.  After mandated integration things changed and when Caucasian parents would not send their children to inner-city schools, that was the star of the changing curriculum of the schools.  Prior each school had a curriculum that included college-bound, arts bound, a career in office education,… >>>

It was nice to revisit the learning methods that each generation prefers.  This helps me after the introduction phase to pause and readapt my instruction and lay out a plan to reach each generation.  This is accomplished by using different learning methods such as multimedia, collaborative groups, and working independently.

This module highlights the different characteristics of each generation and gives a synopsis of its influences.  This helps me understand how each generation's approaches work, and learning.  Being a baby boomer it is important to acknowledge that each generation is based on societal norms at the time and it is important for me to adapt and understand those changes in order to engage each generation in the classroom.

I have encountered this in my teaching.  An extreme example is having a baby boomer who does not want to use technology and a millenial who does not want to take handwritten… >>>

Reply to Sandra Walston's post:Hello Sanda.  Thank you for your post.  We have to remember that to get to best practices we have to engage in discussions like this and insights.  I agree we need more strategies, but the best strategy is kindness.  This simple concept have been removed from the fabric of our society.  With the large class sizes it is hard to meet those students at the lower levels to give individual attention and support.

The strategies discussed I have already incorporated into my delivery.  I did a literature search on the use of music in the classroom and if the music has to have a direct linkage to the learning outcomes.  It does not. Therefore, the students (both on ground and virtually) are met with music or a music video (Kool and the Gang Celebration) to congratulate them on their accomplishments.  Students have indicated that this small gesture helped relieve their stress and thought she must be okay.  I take time to gain rapport and I have learned to be cool with my posture… >>>

This section clarified that accommodations must be made but to at the loss of rigor of the program.  The statistics were alarming. New knowledge was about Education for all. handicapped child Act Pl 94-142 where an individual educational plan must be on record for each student. The poverty rate of 11% was disheartening as they struggle with daily life in poverty.

It is becoming clear as I go through these modules that early intervention and health promotion activities for families are paramount to reduce the number of children who will to succumb to trauma based on their environment.

It was nice to see the comparison and contrast between the two categories.  The statistics were hard to bear especially when it came to children.  This knowledge made me more empathetic to the young adult in college who may be experiencing residual effects of childhood trauma.

I will continue to implement my practice of nonjudgmental of student behaviors as I do not know their background of experiences.  It is important for educators to understand there is always a back story and it is our role to offer a non-threatening environment for learning.  I have worked with veterans as nursing students. … >>>

Even though I am knowledgible about PTSD as a psychiatric nurse and course study in Trauma counseling, I gained new insights into the prevalence statistically of those groups from children to adults who hae experienced some type of trauma.  The origins of the past definitions of those behaviors was beneficial. Lastly, I was glad to see that research has caught up with the behavor which demystifies those experiencing PTSD.

On a personal note, my daddy was a WW2 veterance who lost the tipe of his finger with schrapnel.  At the end stage of his life in hospice, he fell out… >>>

Hello

I am not in an administrative position and gained insight into the complexity of understanding the nuances of each act.  In addition, what constitutes the schools environment in terms of reporting and follow through.  The challenges were very enlightening as one size does not fit all, but you are still required to uphold the standards.  I also learn that each presidential administration and their team can change prior initiatives on this matter.

Being a past victim of domestic assault it would be nice to know that regardless of the political affiliation that heads could come together and decide what… >>>
