Online instructors need to be aware of inclusion in the class. Learners may have trouble with listening, reading, writing, speaking, reasoning, math and social skills. In face to face instruction you may be able to see these problem. I am online environment, communication and a relationship with the students can make the online learning better for all students. As instructor we need to be aware that conditions may exist in students and not to "expose" the students. 

 

Use the Metarubric to evaluate your rubrics for content, clarity, usefulness and reliabilit/validit.

 

There are online websites that can help build your rubric. Also your rubric should be reliable, valid and fair so all instructors can have consistency in grading for the course.

 

In order to help all succeed, constructive criticism between student, peers and instructors will help students judge how well they learned the material. 

 

Most Rubrics only evalate the final project not the progress or effort the student puts into it. 

 

Setting goals with students that are realistic. Use the 7 principles in your online class. This will help with communication in the online classroom. Think about what is taught vs how it is taught. 

 

It is important to use a variety of technology tools for students. Asynchronous and synchronous tools will develop relationships between the students and instructor. Remember to have a student-centered learning space and use networking tools to help engage, communicate and collaborate. 

 

Clear and concise communication is key to online learning. Starting with the syllabu, students should know what is expected of them. 

 

Find the students strengths and weaknesses. This will greatly help in motivation and to improve the learning environment. 

 

Value-added Assessment should be used to provide a more accurate student assessment. The students will receive more focus, fair comparison, accountability and diagnostic approach to grading and assessment. This is more of a student-centered learning Approac.
