This session helped reiterate the importance of proper note-taking. Some possible reasons that may come up were listed, like: continuity of service, accountability, QA, legal & resource allocation.

The session also discussed some professional & guiding principles for documentation, such as: custodian ID, that notes are clear, time-stamped, legible, permanent ink (blue or black), uses acceptable terminology, is current, accurate, chronological, appropriate & complete.

Additional considerations for note-taking discussed included: being objective vs subjective, proper ways of handling documentation errors & the proper use of blank space.

I really enjoyed this particular session. For the Stakeholder Communication portion, I was presented with ideas on how to best present the message of Employment Verification to Employers as well as to Graduates/Students. 

For the Student Expectations & Accountability, I plan to optimize to add some, if not all, of the recommendations presented, since we are already conducting some of them. Currently, we already have in place Orientation,  Student Catalog, Career Services Messaging & Exit Interviews. There are some improvements that can be implemented further. The provision of Disclosures is also a great idea.

I learned/re-learned the components of Employment Verification, or the simplest definitions of what comprises it. The first of which is establishing definitions. It brought back the idea that, as Employment Verifications are compiled, efforts are being made to capture the required reporting information from our various accrediting & regulating agencies. And whenever there is an overlap in that the same information may be required by more than 1 agency, we always follow the agency's policy with a stricter requirement. Depending on the agency, we have reports that are based on the graduating class of a certain calendar year (Jan-Dec) vs… >>>

Listening to the contents of this session helped validate my role in Career Services and the purpose of what I do. It can be frustrating and very time-consuming to collect the graduates' placement information for employment reporting. Most times, I am driven only by the fact that this is a compliance requirement by the accrediting agencies. This is the same information that I tell my graduates, which is why there is a need for us to collect said information.
