Career Services plays a who role in higher education. Starting from the mission statement of the institution to the individual mission of Career Services must compliment the direction of the overall goal for each student. Being able to prepare the future leaders of tomorrow takes dedication, attention to detail, and empathy.

I learned about multiple ways employers can be a resource rather than soley for hiring purposes. I can see several of these ideas being iincorporated within our workshops/employer events moving forward.

Prior to SAE going remote due to the pandemic, we were able to physically interact with students, not just during one on one meetings but via student clubs and events. While ensuring the student feels heard is important, a career coach must also implement the SNIP model to provide feedback to their student in a constructive and receptive way, rather than pointing out the… >>>

There's a fine line between being a coach and a manager and learning to balance that is a critical part in order to suppor the student rather than enabling them. Also, getting to know and understand students early on in the process and establishing a relationship of mutual respect, understanding, and responsibility is important in helping the student reach his/her goal. Finally, being empathetic is key so as to ensure we are taking into account the students needs, not just financially but also psychologically to assist them in finding an opportunity where they feel comfortable to succeed in.
