In this lesson I learned that we are not limited to one leadership style.

Leaders are the visionaries and managers keep every one task.

I am beginning to learn there is a difference between managing and leading. Not all managers can lead.

I learned about the Solomon Act and how FERPA can be overridden.

Regular training for faculty and staff as well as detailed training for new employees is a must.

FERPA guidelines should be easily accessible for faculty, staff, and students to ensure compliance as there are very specific instances in which information can and cannot be shared. It would be difficult for anyone to memorize such policies.

It is important to know that students have a right to privacy regarding their educational records. Even if a parent of a student is requesting information, if that student is 18 years old or older, they must provide consent before information is shared. As a program director previously, it was my duty to ensure student's confidentiality and provide consents prior to discussing any educational information with another individual on the student's behalf.
I believe that we can do a better job at keeping our faculty and staff informed regarding FERPA by ensuring annual training is provided.

It was important to review the differences in violence such as dating and sexual violence and the definition of consent.

Regardless of if an act of cyberstalking occurred on campus or not, a school is obligated to investigate.

It is very important to know who the Title IX Coordinator is and how to contact them. As an educator, it is also important to ensure your students also know this information or how to get to this information.
